Sunday School
Our Sunday School year begins in September and runs through May. During the summer months,
a special Children's message is presented at the 10:00 am service, after which the children
are excused to our Children's Church program. Our Cribbery staff uses age appropriate curriculum
for ages to three years. The Nursery Class for ages three and four enjoys storytelling and games
with "Ichthy Ickthus". In September 2006 we launched a rotational format for our elementary age
students. The rotational learning experience allows students from Kindergarten through Grade 5
to study a Bible story through a different learning style on each of five weeks. On the sixth Sunday,
we hold "Celebration Sunday" for worship, review, and other activities. The Rotational Stations are:
Bible Fun – learning through storytelling, media resources and games, Music/Drama – learning through
music, movement and role playing, Creative Cooking – learning through food preparation, Science/Discovery –
learning through science and nature experiences, and Creative Arts – learning through art and craft experiences.
Students in Grades 6 and 7 meet for Bible Study and discussion. These students also prepare to take a
leadership role in certain activities with the elementary age students.
Confirmation Class is offered for students entering Grade 8 and above. This class meets each week
during the Sunday School hour, and culminates in a Confirmation Service in May.
High Schoolers enjoy lively discussion and activities in their weekly class.
Missions is an important focus in Sunday School. In 2007, we raised over $2,000 for the Heifer Project,
collected over $1,800 to send more than 200 books to the Red Bird Mission School in Kentucky, and shipped
109 boxes to Operation Christmas Child. Our first project of 2008 is to raise $5,000 to purchase an Ark
for the Heifer Project. In the Spring we will raise money for “Nothing But Nets”, which focuses on
malaria prevention in impoverished areas in Africa.
