RUMC 2009 Man Of The Year
Father’s Day is a celebration of all the
wonderful things that dads do. It’s a day to
give thanks for their love and their strength,
for their wisdom, care and concern – it’s a day
set aside to make sure dads know how much
they are loved every day of the year.
Eleven years ago we began recognizing
RUMC’s Man of the Year. Each one of them
has made a significant impact on the life of
our church. Their Christian bearing has been
an inspiration to the congregation. How many
do you remember? Ron Foster, Manny
Nester, George Maynard, Norman Meekins,
Bob Baker, Bob Seohnlein, Ed Gies, Tom
Caltrider, John Wright, Brit Weber and Don
Allewalt.
Today we honor #12. Born in Baltimore over
70 years ago, married for almost 50 years,
father of two daughters and long time resident
of Reisterstown. He is a quiet man with a
warm smile and a wonderful sense of humor.
After graduating from Mergenthaler School,
he became a wood pattern maker and still
works as a manager for the same company.
He served with the Marine Corps Reserve and
was quite a marksman. Before joining RUMC
he was a member of Northminster
Presbyterian Church serving in many
positions including Deacon.
When he came to RUMC our VIM program
was just beginning. His first of many trips
was to Alaska – helping to build a church.
Then it was off to Alabama, Florida,
Tennessee, Kentucky, New Mexico and
Virginia working on flood recovery and
hurricane damage. Locally he has worked on
our church and several others. Have you ever
noticed the wooden crosses on the front doors,
the cross and flame in the Narthex, the large
cross in the Fellowship Hall – he’s worked on them all. Ever wonder who places the orange
parking cones out and opens the church on
Sunday? Need help with the Church Supper
or Pancake Breakfast? He’s there! A member
of Bible studies, Mission Committee and
Property Committee.
A Christian father who sets the standard for
all; I’m proud to recognize Howard Goodrich
as the Man of the Year for 2009!
